Health care is on everyone's minds as the country is in the midst of an overhaul to revise the current system. As costs increase, marginal or traditionally underserved populations will encounter increased barriers to health care. Historically, inmate populations have been overlooked when it came to receiving adequate health care. Prior to the 1970s, health care for prisoners was spotty at best; even the Eighth Amendment's prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment was often not extended to criminal justice populations with regard to health care.
