Accessing information about North Carolina offenders on the Web.
The North Carolina Department of Correction's (DOC) offender management software, while recently developed, is not the newest technology. It runs on a large, central mainframe, and when DOC employees use the software, they see a screen filled with characters -- no graphics, no point-and-click. Old fashioned "dumb" terminals, of which a number remain, work just fine.
But the wide range of business functions in corrections is fully reflected in the software. Consequently, the data the software generates and stores are rich.
